Why We Have to Take the Religious Right Seriously

We absolutely have to take the religious right seriously, simply because it has done so much damage to society in the past 40 years:

• It has devalued science.
• It has devalued history.
• It has devalued education.
• It has devalued critical thinking.
• It has devalued facts.
• It has devalued tolerance.
• It has devalued forgiveness.
• It has devalued mercy.
• It has devalued cooperation.
• It has devalued compromise.
• It has devalued diversity.

The religious right is destroying the fundamental fabric of our society and it is intent upon destroying the tenets upon which our country and government is formed. It must absolutely not be allowed to do so – and its very worst proponents need to be sent back to the lunatic fringe where they belong. Worship or fear your God as you see fit – but if you can’t trust that that your God can deal with non-believers or sinners Itself – I suggest that maybe, just maybe, you’re not worshipping or fearing your God sufficiently… or that you’re not worshipping your God, you’re worshipping your own ego.
